Nicky is a successful global entrepreneur with multiple accomplishments under his tenure. . He began his career in the leather goods manufacturing business in 1974, and at the age of 27 he was appointed Managing Director of Marisa Handbags overseeing over 300 employees. Marisa Handbags produced the licensed brand, Le Sportsac for worldwide distribution. The company also formed part of the Charmfit Group which was involved in the fashion industry including Triumph International as well as Prima Toys. He developed Marisa Handbags and made an agreement with Pierre Cardin at the time when the brand was the world’s top designer label. He also produced small leather goods, belts, scarves, and handkerchiefs which were distributed worldwide. He became well acquainted with Pierre Cardin and helped him develop several under-license contracts worldwide. Cardin purchased the renowned Parisian restaurant Maxims, and Nicky was mandated to license top quality alimentary products from all over the world which would bear the brand Maxims. Some of these quality products are still on sale today – chocolates, jam, and the well-known Brie de Meaux.
In 1982, Nicky created Eurofit International in association with Bally Switzerland and was instrumental in developing and launching the Bally clothing and Handbag line. As a result of this success, Bally supplied its own branded stores with its new product offerings as well as multinational retail stores. Today, you will find Nicky’s portrait in the Bally Museum in Switzerland for his innovation in bringing Bally from a traditional shoe company to a full fashion line offering.
In 1986: Nicky was appointed Managing Director (President) of Rennie’s Manufacturing, which was in partnership with Samsonite in America. The manufacturing unit with over 1,500 employees produced many products including Samsonite suitcases – mostly moulded, briefcases and nylon suitcases under the brands of Revelation and Antler. Other product offerings included sporting equipment – soccer balls under the brand Mitre, rugby balls under the brand Super Springbok and boxing equipment under the brand Invincible.
In 1995: Nicky started a new company in Montreux, Switzerland and developed a disposable, inexpensive alcohol test measuring instrument which was done in collaboration with two French companies, namely Contralco and Turdus. Following several years of development, he obtained the required certification for distribution, such as the French NF that is recognized worldwide and the MHF which covers the whole of Scandinavia. Nicky’s innovation contributed to the overall reduction of drunk driving deaths in France from an annual death rate of 11,000 to 3,000 in just a little over two years. Eventually, the French government made it compulsory for drivers to make his product available in every vehicle. This brought his sales to 80 million units a year in France and 20 million additional units in countries bordering France such as Spain, Switzerland, U.K., Germany. Additionally, during that period all vehicles entering France were obliged to carry his product. The sales of alcohol tests are continuing all over the world as well as to police forces – including for example the Sri Lankan Police.
In early 2000, Nicky had a brilliant yet revolutionary idea to address the food industry with a self-heating meal – an instantly heated meal using a simple hand push, without water, preservatives, or refrigeration. He spent years of research and development into turning his dream into reality and in 2017, Nicky went to market with the initial version of a self-heating meal in a rectangular package containing a meal inside a can. It was used mostly by the military, fire departments and emergency sectors. Subsequently, after intensive R&D and substantial investments, in 2019 he developed the self-heating meal within a round container paving the way to a more aesthetically appealing, practical, and user-friendly product. He spent the next 3 years in patenting this product worldwide at a cost of approximately € 900,000 to date to protect his dream. Subsequently Joni Foodtech was spawned in Italy together with a new marketing entity, KWIK CHEF in collaboration with Winston Chin, a Canadian associate. Today Nicky Sevim’s innovation is providing the military, the less fortunate, convenience, retail stores and others too numerous to mention, with the most innovative and disruptive food tech product ever made.
